Elite Mammoths (Spring/Summer) Travel Team - Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?
Our programs are generally for youth ages 8 to 17 years old who live or attend school in cities within Central Minnesota and Surrounding Cities.

How much traveling is involved with Tournament Basketball?
Most tournaments we attend are typically the Twin Cities Metro Area and Surrounding Cities. Parents and Players can expect to stay In-State for all tournaments unless, the parents, coaches and players elect to travel to neighboring states for a maximum of 1 tournament, this may be an overnight tournament and cost for room and board is paid by the parents/players.

What is the schedule for Travel Program?
Our Elite Mammoths Teams practice twice a week and compete in weekend tournaments. Tryouts are held in March, practices begin in April, and tournaments begin in May. There is a break over Fourth of July, and play continues until the month, we rarely have tournaments that are held in August.

How many tournaments do Travel Teams play in?
We typically plan for 5 to 7 tournaments for the season for each team. Teams are guaranteed two games in each tournament, and sometimes get as many as four. Games are usually Saturday and Sunday; the larger tournaments sometimes schedule games on Friday evening.

How do I know if my child is ready for Travel Basketball?
In March, all players interested in the Elite Mammoths Program will be evaluated. We aim to have (1) one team formed in each division, which means players are encourage to try their best at tryouts.

Players that do not make our Elite Mammoths Travel team are encouraged to play in the Secure the Crown 3 on 3 Program.

What does the evaluation process entail?
The traveling evaluations occur over the course of two nights for each grade. It is vital that each player attend both sessions to ensure an accurate assessment. We have (3) instructors to conduct the evaluations. Players will be evaluated on individual skills as well as their game play. We encourage players to attend the open gyms that take place in advance of the evaluations; they are good opportunities to better understand what will occur at them.  Results will be communicated within a few days of the completion of evaluations.

How many players are placed on travel teams?
We allow an 8 player max on each team. This ensures significant playing time for each player. We occasionally make exceptions, most notably in the girls program. Due to small numbers, and the lack of a sporting opportunities provided, we feel it is important to keep as many girls playing as possible.

What is the cost for Travel Basketball?
Tryout fee for participation in $10 and is due during registration for the division.

The registration fee is between $350 and $500 which covers gym time, and tournament entry fees for the team.  Tournament fees for spectators are based on the individual tournament and can range from $5 to $20.

Where are practices held?
All teams will practice at Faith Christian School located in Foreston, MN.

What is the refund policy?
Refunds: 0% refund will be given after the teams are formed and players have accepted their invitation and have paid their registration fee. Refunds may be prorated if tournaments are cancelled and/or unavailable.

What is SHOOT N HOOPS for?
Our organization attempts to keep costs down by hosting basketball tournaments.  These are huge fund raisers that require participation by everyone in the Program.  If you choose not to volunteer, there will be a non-volunteer fee added to your account during registration, this fee is considered a "buy out" of your commitment at registration. For everyone else, this fee will be returned/refunded at the end of the season.  The fee is $125.

What does assisting at the tournament entail?
We have positions for admissions, concessions, gym supervisors, clock operators and scorekeepers.  Each family is needed to put in a total of 16 hours for the season. We recommend that you assist during times where your child is not playing so that you may support your child through their games.

How are coaches selected?
Majority of our teams rely on college student athlete coaches.  The League Administrator selects coaches based on playing experience, availability and background checks. Coaches are not assigned until teams are formed
